Ok, the Spider-woman painting turned out dreadful, but I’m glad to be rid of it. As a reminder, it was my first painting where I didn’t ink or outline the image with a Sharpie.
The Daredevil one was done quick and fast…and boy, it looks it. Smaller canvas, however.
Lastly, the Silver Surfer turned out fine, but usually the photographs don’t do the colors justice.

So I says to my wife
you draw and paint Aquaman and so will I.
Paintings are up at MY myspace.com
Next day, I says, let’s each draw Green Arrow and Black Canary.

We already have a deviant art account so we’ll see about hosting there more often.
She got competitive with the project. Hers turned out great, don’t you think?

quick note, to direct readers, if any to: myspace.com/jacobbecher where the slideshows are, again, hosting more, yet new paintings. i’m all tuckered out with Transformers, i think, because i painted all the characters i could give a hoot about. well, except Jazz, anyway. i like him and ironhide, wheeljack…and maybe a few more gen 1 guys (notice the trend?) so i don’t think i’ll be doing anymore and certainly not at that…what? 20 X 19 scale. Starscream was probably the most difficult due to the larger color palette the picture/character demanded. my wife suggested i change the orange sky to green in order to off-set the orange against the red color, but i think i’ll leave it alone. that painting took twice as long as any other and i don’t want to look at it. she says the last one i did of Soundwave turned out best. nice, but hard to believe. i really had to fake body and 3-d.
you’ll notice the spider-woman is a work in progress. indeed, this painting will test my patience because the intent is to capture a more realisitc quality. that is, i am aiming to not outline the picture, unlike all the other paintings, save some of their respective landscapes, without any black outlines. i’m going for a European style like Mobius and i hope you enjoy my first ever attempt to paint without sharpie markers, which have kept me sane and on the straight and narrow. i have to thank my lovely wife for crafting the way we’ve painted hitherto, without her i’d still be a sickening perfectonist and tossing paintings left and right into the garbage (tearing them in half in a fit of rage) before even trying to save the work and try doing things differently for the sake of salvaging art…for art’s sake.

See myspace.com/jacobbecher
for 3 new paintings. They’re up already. Later on, I’ll probably clean out some nonsense text clutter from previous posts as this site was intended to showcase sketches not paintings and excuses for lack of sketches.

A G.I. Joe painting is currently in the works, based on the animation, not the comics. My wife is halfway through painting it as I type this. I love both the animation and comic books on said title, but my wife was only exposed to the cartoon and, to date, is not interested in the cool comics. She likes Duke and Scarlett so I stuck them together, even though the tragic and epic romance was between her and Snake Eyes. The comics were more true to form because the creator of the action figure file cards wrote the comics and focused on characterization and continuity. The animation had a lot of good things going for it as well: voice talent, fluid animation, music…but why the cartoon makers ignored Lt. Hawk as the leader of the Joes for many seasons, replacing him with Master Sgt. Duke I’ll never understand. Plus, for the most part, the animation had the A-Team effect, where no one could shoot a firearm worth a shit even at close distance.
Also, this family is getting a head start and jumping on the band wagon of Transformers. I guarantee it will be next Summers big blockbuster. I will be painting two images: one of Optimus Prime, and the other of Megatron. All this while I take a personal day or two off from work and try to enjoy the holidays.

We ran out of painting canvas and money has been tight so I have nothing new to add per se. Most likely we’ll pick up more canvas next week since it happens to be a payday week.
Anyway, we touched up the painting based on a character of my own. It looks too much like Star Wars/Darth Maul, but the look of the face and head remains constant from when I first drew the guy a decade ago. Check it out. It’s kind of blurry because the colors looks richer when the flash is off and the metallic paint parts reflect awfully bad, but you’ll get the drift.

With the extra time off from work (yes!) I was able to create four new paintings. See my myspace.com website for a slideshow of images. A few are still not uploaded and shared but that’s because I am steadily adding new work. I timed myself and am thinking of filming myself while I do a painting. Maybe I’ll learn a thing or two and hopefully improve on something. It seems, on average, I take anywhere from 2-4 hours on a painting. Still no HP driver update, but I do have another scanner, alebit a slow Visioneer model so I might scan sketches in the future. For the paintings we use a digital camera anyway.
Well, I have 2 more canvases left, I better get cracking.

If you’re an HP printer/scanner user like myself and run Win XP with the lastest patches of which IE7 conflicts, then perhaps you and I can relate to not having a working scanner.
Until HP gets a bug fixer I can’t share pictures. Too bad too, because I was going to share a Captain America doodle. Here and at the Bendis board.

Well, I’m not getting the kind of traffic I had hoped here. I kind of expected feedback, heck, at least one person (that is, not a spam bot) saying hello (besides me) without a care for art would suffice…but on the other hand, I kind of don’t. Maybe I fear criticism. I am registered at Deviantart.com and perhaps I need to move or create a sketch blog there.
Anyway, I’m updating here not for anything that has to do with what I wrote above, but just to mention how I won’t be uploading and sharing anything new this week. Again. Sorry. Work has been crazy suddenly. In fact, I think my boss (and a few others?) got walked off the job today and there’s a company picnic Saturday. I will ask my sister to scan and email a Batman sketch I did a few weeks ago and share it sometime soon. It turned out okay, enough so that she asked to have it. If that’s not a good indication then I don’t know what is.
In reading over my comments: I also want to emphasize that whenever I state how I “piss off my wife” or “working with someone isn’t easy”, it’s purely in exagerrated terms. Believe me, my wife would feel the exact opposite. It’s painting, after all. Fun, meaningless BS we do at home. Just because. That is to say neither of us are ever at each others throats or arguing. I really ought to try and consider making my blogs contain less text because readers might misunderstand my meaning. And a private life deserves to be kept private. I really should know better.
